Where energy meets ideas.

I’m Anthony Glyn Boden. I’ve spent two decades helping utilities, investors and infrastructure businesses navigate the energy transition, and I build ventures and stories that make those big ideas belong to everyone.

About me

I help people understand the systems that shape our world.

I grew up in Cardiff, a fluent Welsh speaker, and fell for physics early. After a Master’s in Physics and Astronomy at Durham University, I joined the energy industry and never looked back.

Since then I’ve worked across the whole energy value chain: retail, networks, generation, M&A and large-scale transformation. I’ve guided multi-billion-dollar transactions, served in Chief Transformation Officer roles, and advised utilities, private equity and infrastructure funds across Europe and North America.

But what drives me is the same thing that started EnergyStory as an attempt to explain my job to my mum: the belief that the energy transition, and science itself, should make sense to everyone, not just specialists.

My journey

Two decades across the energy transition.

  1. Foundation

MSc Physics & Astronomy, Durham University

A schoolboy fascination with energy becomes a degree in high-energy physics, and the lens I still use to look at the world.

  2. 2009 – 2016

    RWE · Energy value chain

Internal advisory across one of Europe’s largest utilities: multi-billion gas price arbitration, market and credit risk, and supporting nuclear programme development in the Middle East.

  3. 2016

    EnergyStory begins

What started as a way to explain my work to my mum becomes a public platform for making the energy transition accessible.

  4. 2016 – 2020

innogy · Head of Executive Programmes

Strategic IT leadership for generation and renewables, including a £100m recovery programme that cut major incidents by 90%, and leading the IT workstream for the SSE–npower merger.

  5. Leadership

    Cambridge Judge Business School

Management training in how high-performing teams are built and sustained. I’ve put it to work leading teams through change ever since.

  6. 2020 – 2025

Charles River Associates · Principal, Energy Practice

Guiding private equity and infrastructure funds through multi-billion-dollar energy transactions, with Chief Transformation Officer roles at National Gas, Czech Gas Networks, CEZ Romania and Gridspertise.

  7. 2025

    Collider Cafe launches

A decade-old idea comes to life: STEM-inspired games, gifts and events designed to bring people and ideas together.

  8. 2025 – today

    AFRY · Energy advisory

Advising on transactions and strategy across the energy transition, all while writing my debut novel.

  9. 2026

Ethics of AI, London School of Economics

Exploring the ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence, as intelligent systems become part of the energy world and everyday life.

What I do

Where technical systems meet commercial reality.

Energy strategy

Advising utilities, investors and infrastructure businesses on strategy across thermal, renewables, grids and storage.

Transactions

Multi-billion-dollar M&A from due diligence to post-deal value creation, carve-outs and integration.

Transformation

Chief Transformation Officer roles and major change programmes that deliver financial stability and operational excellence.

Storytelling

Turning complex systems into stories, products and experiences people can understand, discuss and share.

Electricity grid infrastructure

EnergyStory

Stories from across the energy transition.

EnergyStory is where I share what I’ve learned, from how the grid actually works to renovating my own home with heat pumps, solar and storage. It connects the technical reality of energy systems with the human story of climate, resilience and change.

  • Energy transition & infrastructure resilience
  • The history of energy and stories of innovation
  • Data centres, electrification & demand growth
  • A six-part series on my own home energy retrofit

Collider Cafe

Where people and ideas collide.

Collider Cafe is my venture for sparking curiosity through STEM-inspired games, gifts, events and experiences. Not a school, not an academy: a space where children and adults alike feel confident to ask questions and connect with the ideas that shape our world. Designed and made in the UK with talented human artists and scientists.

  • Games & gifts that make science social
  • Events & experiences for curious minds
  • Inspired by CERN’s colliders and the great coffee houses

Writing

After the lights go out, the real story begins.

I’m writing my debut novel: a near-future thriller about resilience, human connection and our dependence on the systems we never think about until they fail.

It draws on everything I’ve seen inside the world’s critical infrastructure: the grids, the markets, the people who keep the lights on, and what happens to all of us when they can’t.

More will be shared when the project is ready. Publishing enquiries are very welcome.
